HVX-200 is a great camera. Shoots in 1080/24p, has variable frame-rates, And has many of the great features of the DVX100 (the DVX is also a great camera and about $1000 cheaper). If you've got about $3000 dollars you can get a really good camera. If you don't want to spend more than $1000 look into the HV40 from canon. It looks good, is small, and is a great camera to start out with. Around $600. You can also rent out an HVX, or DVX for about $100 a day.
