nicb.org is the only free site I know. Go to their site and look for the button that says VINCHECK. You enter your VIN and that's it. It's the only free one out there but all it shows is if the vehicle is stolen or totaled. If you need a complete VIN check, you will need to pay for it. There are several cheap providers online.
