Wireless connection keeps dropping out?

Internet works with ethernet cable, but wi-fi connection keeps dropping. Why?

  • Hi, when I plug my ethernet cable in, I get a proper internet connection, but when I use wi-fi, it keeps dropping, saying 'default gateway not available'. If I click troubleshoot, it fixes it by finding the gateway but it takes around 3-4 mins to do this and it literally happens every few minutes, making it impossible to work on my laptop. I should mention I have just moved into this house...how can I configure the network so that I get proper wi-fi access? My wireless adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless N1030 and the laptop runs on Windows 7. I have had this problem with other wi fi networks in other houses as well but connections such as the ones in Starbucks shops have always worked fine. I know there's something I need to configure to make it work but not sure what it is as I'm not great with these things..Thanks.
