Do you think Nintendo is dying?

As a kid that grew up in the 90's. The Nintendo 64 was kickass. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and the Mario series became regarded as the best games/series of ALL time. I had a Ps1 and I didnt like it very much, it just couldnt live up to the nintendo 64, and forget xbox. The Nintendo Gameboy Color also was a huge success, it seemed like EVERYONE had one and was playing either zelda, pokemon, you name it on there. Even before all this was the SNES which was what made the mario series and much more. That was a huge success too. Though it seemed as soon as the Gamecube came out they started to go down hill. Xbox and Playstation systems went up as gamecube went down. The wii, was really only bought by consumers as they thought it was revolutionary technology, myself included, though the story is simple sad and short: It wasnt. The wii is glitchy and has many problems, after 3 months you could find the wii in the basement or gathering dust in the back corner. The DS was supposed to be the new gameboy, while a success they are now starting to go downhill as they advertise a new DS coming out when its the same as the last one plus this or that little tweak (same deal as the iPad). With all this in mind I feel it is apparent that Nintendo is going downhill, as evident when they were forced to remake Zelda OoT in 3D. With the Xbox and Playstation selling gamers out with First person shooters, traditional controller styles and more, I dont see how to nintendo could live up to it. Ive come to the conclusion that consumers are more fascinated on the gory/violent games such as GTA, CoD, SOCOM, L4D, AC, etc. and arnt into the friendly world of Mario where his weapons are comical and happy. Consumers also are more into online gameplay as opposed to a dedicated singleplayer plot line. So anyway what do you think. Nintendo Dying or not? If they are do you think theyll come back?

Nintendo will never die in my book. I mean just look at the series. As many games that have come out like Angry Birds, CoD, WOW, Halo, Nintendo still has been going strong. The only reason it seems like Nintendo is dying is because of how people criticize it since it looks like it was intended for kids. Im 16 and I play some of those 'modern' games but I still have my SNES and 3DS. The DS sold millions of units worldwide, beating the PSP. The Wii also sold more than the PS3 OR XBOX 360. Even right now the 3DS is beating the PSVita in sales for the 1st month. And who can forget about Pokemon? As much as games evolve, Nintendo will always be there. cmon, you know everyone had a gameboy and playing pokemon on the toilet. So No, Nintendo isn't dying.

No. The DS was a huge success, and has sold over 151 million units. The 3DS is not the same as the last one, it's their next-generation handheld. Sure it might not be as powerful as the Vita, but it's still much more powerful than the DS and has a LOT of new features. Don't forget that the PSP was more powerful than the DS, but the DS still sold a ton more and has a much larger amount of games for it. (In fact, history shows that it's almost always the least "powerful" console that is more successful) The 3DS has already sold over 15 million in it's first year, that's more than the DS sold in it's first year. In Japan, it continues to sell 6x - 9x the amount that the Vita does each week, and last week it outsold all the other consoles combined. About games, yes, FPS games like Call of Duty etc are very popular these days, but Nintendo games are just as popular as ever, maybe more so. Super Mario 3D Land has sold over 5 million copies, and it's only been out for four months. Mario Kart 7 has been out just three months but has already sold over 4.5 million copies etc. Don't forget, these games continue to sell regularly for years and years. There are lots of well known and unique first and third-party games available for the 3DS, with more on the way. Also there are a lot of Nintendo games coming for it soon. Then there are all the Nintendo games for Wii which have sold hundreds of millions of copies. Then from a business perspective, Nintendo have a LOT more money in the bank, and continue to make a LOT more money than Sony and Microsoft's video game divisions. There's a lot more I could say, but from the different points I (and other people above) have said, I don't see how anyone can say Nintendo is "dying". They're in a VERY healthy position.

Nintendo is far from death. Although the Gamecube did not succeed, it produced some fantastic games like Resident Evil 4, which changed the horror genre forever. Regarding the DS, it sold more than the PSP. Seriously. It was being reported that the 3DS was not doing so well, but Nintendo has reported excellent sales in Japan. Meanwhile, the Wii is on course to become the most selling gaming console in history, overtaking the PS2. Wii Sports is the highest selling game ever. Wii is a party gaming console, and not for serious gamers, and inability to produce HD graphics is the reason why CoD, GTA, etc aren't made for it, but it's far from dead. Recently, the Wii has produced Legend of Zelda - Skyward Sword and Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, both of which have been acknowledged as the best games in the series. Games like Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye, Super Mario 64 are being remade on the Wii as they are classics and everyone likes to play them. Older PlayStation classics like Metal Gear Solid and Shadow of the Colossus are also being remade for PS3, which doesn't mean Sony is dying. Japan has always been Nintendo's mainstream market. The US primarily concentrates on the Xbox, with the PS3 getting a share of both markets. Regarding the "revolutionary technology", it is true that it was the selling point of the Wii, but it has been justified. Kinect or PS Move haven't been able to replicate that type of success, and probably never will. Remember that Nintendo was the only company brave enough to invest heavily in video games post the video game crash. They revived the industry, and most certainly won't die by the hands of the industry they single-handedly created.

I don't think Nintendo is dying. They're just not making that much money as they used to. Think about it, Nintendo is gaming-only company. Microsoft and Sony are so much bigger, it's no surprise that they make more money. Nintendo's latest biggest hit was the Wii, and that was released six years ago, meanwhile Microsoft is exceeding with Windows, and Sony is doing well developing phones and tablets(I know Sony is doing kinda bad right now, but sh*t happens to companies all the time. I think they will recover pretty soon). Anyways, Microsoft and Sony make Nintendo look bad because they have money and people to work with. Thus making more money and gaining more popularity for their products.
