    Since you're a good long distance runner, it actually isn't hard to adapt to a sprint. First of all, you will need to be able to exert all your energy you save up for a maybe a 5k run into 100-400 meters. You have to be able to push hard with legs as well as have a good amount of strides. Usain Bolt's success in his sprinting is not because he takes more strides, but because of each stride is much more powerful . Definitely strengthen your legs and do sports that involve the leg and thigh. For warm-ups, stretch but not to the point you feel like jelly. Sprinting requires a strong and working leg that allows extremely powerful pumping, never EVER stretch your legs before a race, while you are behind your blocks waiting for the official. Try to be the last to get on your block, giving yourself less time for your leg to set and stiffen up in that one position. In training, do intervals but implement the high legs so that your knee touches your hands if you were to put them in-front of you. I had the same problem! My coach made us do strides (fast jogs, a little slower than sprints) after recovery days and long runs to get some sprinting in. He also told my teammates and I to focus on swinging our arms, pushing off our toes, and driving our knees upwards, and that advice helped all of us.

We do this thing I think it's called scissor kicks or something, you stand with one foot in front of you and one foot behind you and then you jump up and scissor kick so that they switch places (front foot goes behind you) then switch back before you hit the ground. It helps your fast twitch muscles and helps you get our faster. Sorry I don't run sprints, so that's all I've got.
