How to know if your ingrown toenail is getting better?

I think I have a really bad ingrown toenail?

  • It's currently around 3 in the morning and the pain woke me up about 15 minutes ago...it's a strong, even throbbing pain in one area of the cuticles on my right toe. For a while I had no idea what it was. Is it possible to wake up with a really bad ingrown toenail like that? I took to the internet and I've been getting mixed signals. What is the safest way to remove these things? Do I really have to go to a paediatrician, or can I do this at home? It's way too early to go anywhere. I'm just 15, I don't want to wake up my mom but I don't really know if I can bear the pain for 4 more hours until she wakes up. I know that if it's an ingrown toenail I shouldn't touch it, but it's the only way I've been dealing. Oh my goodness, now my entire foot's going numb. Why? What's happening? How can I treat this?

  • Answer:

See a doctor/your emergency department as soon as possible. If you can quickly get into a doctor/pediatrician, i would suggest that. There are specialists at the hospital too. If it is as bad as you are saying, i would suggest immediate medical attention. (You don't need an ambulance, but just get someone to drive you down to the ER) DO NOT TREAT IT BY YOURSELF OR WITHOUT A MEDICAL PRACTIONER! And next time, as soon as you see an infected toenail/toe, get it checked out! I understand this was a pretty sudden incident, but its amazing how many people come into my uncles pediatrician clinic with infections that would've been treated much more painlessly and dramatic than what had to be done, if they had been seen earlier.

See a doctor about it or a specialist, the best thing you can do is leave it, don't put pressure on it and DONT PICK AT IT. In grown toe nails kind of go away like pimples, but if you pick it or rip the nail it will just make it worse.
