Physics/Biblical Studies Double major?

Which major is worth it? International Business or Asian Studies with a minor in business?

  • Some background information: I reeeeaaalllly want to travel for my job. The country I would love to travel, or even work in, is South Korea. I know that this is going to be tedious and difficult but it is worth a try. I know that I could teach English to kids in public school but that is not the path that I wanted to take. I was looking for more of a business type job. I have 29 credits at TWU, with a major in kinesiology for physical therapy. I am changing my major to something that will allow me to travel. Alright so I have a dilemma. I have two paths in front of me and I am not sure which one I should take. The first path is that I major in International Business, and focus my study on Asia, and then get my masters in accounting and get my CPA. The other route I could take is to major in Asian Studies and get a minor in business. I could take the courses that are pre-reqs for the accounting school through the minor in business. The first option gives me the business degree; however, I am not sure if that is necessary. I did some research and I read that people regretted not doing a liberal arts degree. Also, not all of the CEOs/CFOs majored in business. With the second degree, I was thinking that I could gain valuable information with the Asian culture, along with the side of business. I thought this would be more valuable for me wanting to travel and all. Everyone I talk to says I should major in international business. The thing with the business school is that I want to go to UT. I have to apply in the fall so I will have to wait a full year before I can consider transferring to the business school. With Asian Studies, I can go ahead and apply for the spring and get started. I have a 4.0 GPA and I volunteer within the community so I do not think that getting in will be a huge problem. **If anyone has any ideas on how I could land a job in Korea that would be awesome!** -I am trying to use accounting and either major to make me more open (international business/asian studies) and get to Korea

  • Answer:

Asian studies wont help you get a job in Asia. Asians could care less if you study their culture as a major. All their people already know it better than you and studies something useful. American companies would rather send someone with a more useful degree as well and you wont get sent as a new hire. That all being said International business would be better. Your best bet on getting a job in Korea is going to school there. They have scholarships for foreign students so I would suggest doing that for your undergraduate or your masters. They have scholarships for both. I am not sure if they take business or asian studies majors though you have to look. I know they take engineering majors as that is what I am and looked into it and they kept emailing me asking to apply lol. (much more competitive in japan I think)
