Which field in Aerospace is more promising? and why?

Is aerospace engineering a good field or is IT better?

  • Answer:

These are both great fields. I work in IT for an aerospace company and honestly I think that overall IT has better stability and security. Here is why. Much of aerospace work is military related. When military spending is up they do very well and when the spending goes down there are many layoffs and cutbacks. On the first day of a program they need very few engineering people then that ramps up and eventually peaks with lots of people and then tapers off. Also, if the particular engineering project does not need your area of experitise there may not be any positions available for you on a given program. If you specialize in aircraft fuel systems then there will be no work for you on a missle program. As far as an IT perspective - on the first day of a program they already need to have an IT infrastructure in place with file servers with the right access permissions, computing security in place, remote access for vendors, etc. That infrastructure has to remain in place and working well until the last day of the program and perhaps well after the program ends. So overall IT needs are more stable. Now that is not to say that there are never any layoffs and there is never any outsourcing because there are. Best wishes!

aerospace has stability and security but IT is in more demand and hence getting a job in IT is easy.there are only few aerospace companies.
