When do I start weaning kittens?

I have two 3 nearly 4 week old kittens and the mum is ill?

  • ive took her to the vets but shes dehydrated and being a bit stubborn to eat however she isn't the problem this is my first time having kittens there are only 2 and they're quite big so i wanted to start helping the mum get better by weaning them onto kitten lactol milk and kitten food but i don't know how to hold the kittens to feed them and they don't want the milk can any1 help with a couple of ideas how to do this for mum and whats the best food etc thank you so much from billie

    A simple way to supplement their diet is to use an eye dropper to give them some "kitten milk" do not SQUIRT they can choke just drop by drop. It is not easy to get them used to it but not really hard once you find the spot for them to open up for you.You can sometimes drop some on mum when they are feeding to get them used to it .JUST drops on the side of their mouth. Can also use a larger syringe with the NEEDLE removed. Do not SQUIRT take your time.

if they are big enough put a very shallow bowl with wet kitten food on the floor and show them if they dont eat it put some on ur finger and put it in their mouth and hopefully thy eat it. but do not put to much on ur finger . if u are bottle feeding them hold them against ur body and tip their head up and push it in their mouth they wont like it but it helps. i did this when i took my kitten from my grandmas and he eventually started to nurse the bottle and ate out of a bowl. hope i helped a lil
