What is the difference between a 2ohm sub and a 4 ohm sub?

2 Ohm amp with 2ohm DVC sub?

  • Hi Guys. Have been installing car audio as a full time job for about 6months now, but am building my own system and still getting my head around all the maths and lingo. My question is, if I want an Alpine MRX-V60 5 channel http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=221 (75x4 and 300x1 @2ohms) And a Alpine 12" sub, SWS-1223D (2Ohm DVC) ... how would I wire the sub? I want to get the full 300w out of it but being a 2Ohm DVC I can only wire to 1ohm load or 4ohm load (IS THAT CORRECT???) Also will have 4 speakers for the dedicated channels AND I want the full 75wats out of those other channels. IS THIS GOING TO WORK? Thanks in advanced.

  • Answer:

Why not get the dual 4 ohm version of the subwoofer instead? That way you can wire it too a 2 ohm load?
