When is it appropriate to show my Turkish ID card?

• Hey guys, I have a question regarding the Turkish Citizen/national ID cards (not sure what they're actually called, but I assume you get my drift). When do I use mine? I understand that I use it when going through passport control at the airport.. but say, if a bouncer was to ask me for ID, would I show them my Turkish ID card, Australian school ID card or my passport? And when booking hotels, which ID would be appropriate? I understand that with some of the Turkish historical sites, like the summer palace or galata tower there are discounts for Turkish citizens. Having shocking Turkish language skills and often being mistaken for German or Russian, would I just place my Turkish ID somewhere that they can see in order to get the discount, even if only speak pigeon Turkish? In short what I'm asking is basically whether the Turkish ID cards are regarded as more private things that you only show to government people, or whether they're like your drivers license that you flash to anyone when they ask for ID. Any insights would be great :) Thanks in advance!

  You can flash your Turkish ID card (kimlik in Turkish) anywhere you want. It is like your driving license and no big deal.
