How to insert footnotes?

How to Insert Endnotes & Footnotes in MS Word

  • Answer:

Creating complex documents may require the use of footnotes, endnotes or both. Microsoft Word allows users to do all three. To add explanatory comments on your text, consider footnotes, which appear at the bottom of the relevant page. For citing sources, consider endnotes, which appear at the end of a document. Each endnote and footnote consists of an in-text superscript mark and a corresponding number at the end of the document or page, according to Microsoft. Difficulty: Easy Instructions Footnotes Open your Word document. Click the "View" tab and choose "Print Layout." This allows you to see the footnotes at the bottom of the page. Word automatically inserts the correct reference number in superscript to the right of your text and in the footnote panel at the bottom of the page. Type your footnote text. Click "Show Notes" in the "Footnotes" panel to return to the main body of your document. Endnotes Click the spot in your text where the endnote reference mark should appear.
