Sound problem with my TV.

TV sound problem

  • I have a 32" Sylvania TV that has a great deal of static on only one channel.  The sound on all the other channels is fine.  I can hear the sound on Channel 47 but there is a great deal of static.  When I use the VCR and turn on Channel 47 it comes in clear, no static, but when I use only the TV then channel 47 comes in with static.  This only happens only on the Sylvania set as I tried switching sets to see if it was a cable problem or just my TV.  My TV manual does not cover this problem and I contacted Sylvania but they were unable to help and referred me to a TV repair center.

  • Answer:

Hello Marty, The only reason that I can think of that can cause this interference is that the transmitting station for ch47 is out of adjustment. What happens is that the cable company has one of their channel modulators out of adjustment at the head end. the head end is the area that receives all the stations from satellites and off air programming and puts them on the cable for you to tune into. On some cable systems you will notice that on some channels the sound or color may not be at the same levels. With your problem that video limiter is out of adjustment for CH47 at the head end and this is allowing the video to enter the audio band(basically) of the signal. you will notice the noise more so when the picture becomes brighter. better quaility TV's will be able to filter out the video peaks that can cause interference to the audio.
