How to set default color for printer?

Set a specified printer to be the default printer when Windows XP starts

  • I have a Brother MFC 6800 printer, which sets itself to be the default printer when Windows XP starts or resumes from hibernate. Thus, when I specify some other printer as the default printer, it remains the default printer until I hibernate Windows. Then, when it resumes from hibernate or is restarted, the default printer is now the Brother. I want another printer to be the default printer, without having to go back and manually set it again and again. Right now, I want the Adobe PDF Writer to be default, but later would like to be able to change this to any other printer that is installed. This fix should run automatically right after windows starts or resumes from hibernation. It may need to wait a moment until whatever the Brother does has finished. Equally good would be to tell me how to disable the action of the Brother, so that whatever printer was set as default is left alone upon startup or resuming from hibernate. Thank you in advance for your help.

jhs1... I've found a handy little utility that can be set to run in a command file by placing it in the startup folder so it runs when Windows starts back up. It's called defprint (for Default Printer). It was written by Stuart Anderson and can be downloaded from this page on NetAdminTools.com: http://www.netadmintools.com/art194.html The utility is explained on that page, as well. I played with it and created a simple .cmd file which could be placed in the Windows Startup folder, with the assumption that you placed the defprint executable in, say, C:\defprint and assuming your Adobe PDF Writer is on port FPP1, and it's the only printer on that port: Code C:\defprint\defprint /D FPP1: End Code You can find out which port your Adobe PDF Writer is on by opening a CMD Prompt from the folder where you placed the executable and running the command: defprint /P This will list all your printer names and port locations. It worked just fine for me.
