How to dowload images (photos) from my Canon SD500 to my PC (Windows XP)?

  • I am unable to download photos from my Canon SD500 to my PC. The camera downloads to a Mac just fine, but for some reason it does not download to my PC. I have loaded all the software, but ZoomBrowser EX fails to acquire images from my camera (gives me an error that the CameraWindow is already running). The computer recognizes the hardware, but when I tried to acquire images from it (as though it were a separate drive) it tells me the camera is busy. I tried uninstalling an reinstalling the software that came with the camera with no improvement. I tried to google a response, found a message board with similar complaints of using the SD500 with Windows XP, but none of these seemed to work...and Canon has been unresponsive to my requests. Please help if you can...

    Hello and thank you for letting me answer your question. Try downloading Picasa (it's free). http://picasa.google.com/ After installing Picasa, connect your camera to the computer via USB and turn it on. Wait a moment for Windows to ask you what program to use, and select Picasa. Or if that somehow doesn't work, start Picasa while the camera is connected and select "Import" on the top left of the window (just to the right of the Picasa logo). If you see your camera listed, select it and let Picasa do the rest.
