My Xbox disc tray opens and closes of its own free will. Stupid thing just sits there opening and closing, pause, opening, closing. What could be wrong?

Answer:
Could be down to a damaged eject button on the xbox, if you find the xbox turns itself on then spits the disc tray out then you might have to consider replacing the button pannel or the button swith on the panel. Check to see if the button 'clicks' when you press it in, if not, recomend replacing the panel. If replacing the panel, ensure the replacement is compatible with your version of the xbox, both would require opening the xbox

Could be a mechanical/"electric eye" issue similar to that of garage doors. There could be something jammed in there setting it off, or the sensor has gone haywire.
