What is voip telephones?

Will normal telephones work with VoIP service?

  • Answer:

Yes, but you will have to use an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) that changes your landline phone to a Ethernet signal with SIP signalling. There are many manufacturers of ATA's, and you just have to find one that works for you. Personally, I have always had good luck with the Grandstream HandyTone series. They are cheap and well-made, and they have worked with every service I have tried. Check out their website here: http://www.grandstream.com/y-htseries.htm From my experience, Atacomm usually has some of the best prices on Gradstream equipment. You can check out prices here: http://voipstore.atacomm.com/Shops/ViewManufacturer.aspx/27934028032-41716527360.htm Hope this helps. Basically, once you add an ATA, your normal landline phone can now be plugged into a router or bradband modem. The ATA provides dialtone to your handset, as well as ringing voltage and all of the other things your telephone needs to survive. Definitely, any ordinary touchtone phone set would work with VoIP phone service. However, you have to plug in an ATA or analogue telephone adapter with it. This adapter is provided by the VoIP provider without any extra charges.
