I have been bitten by something on my foot, possibly an ant. It had a white head on it and I popped it. Now my foot is swollen and red, with the white spot still in the middle of it. Any ideas on how to stop the pain? No insurance for the doctor.

Answer:
What part of the country are you from? How long since the bite? Is your whole foot swollen or just the area around the bite? Fireband has a good answer but this sounds pretty nasty. If it has a white head, it probably is a spider bite. Here is a good site to look at to identify the bite: http://www.biteremedy.com/ If you are having that bad of a reaction, you were possibly nailed by something nasty like a Brown Recluse. I have been nailed by a Brown Recluse and, trust me, you do not want to play around with that. Or you could have been nailed by something that you, yourself, are allergic to. Either way, you do not want to play around. You might HAVE to go to the ER. If you go to the ER, they have to treat you, even if it is minimally. You can, if you are low income, often get on a program where the hospital visits and treatments are written off or vastly reduced. If the white center goes blackish (or even starts to darken), go to the ER now! That is how I knew it was a recluse bite... it started out with a white center, then turned black. Well, as well as the cellulitis that spread almost to my groin (eep) and the fever hot feel of the skin.

Get a bowl of as hot as you can stand salt water and soak your foot. If the head is white it is probably pus. Keep topping up the heat. I was bitten by a Fire Ant and had an allergy to it I used the hot salt water method. If you can soak out the poison that has probably accrued it should help. Use an antiseptic cream when you dry your foot with a VERY clean cloth. I do hope it helps If it seems to be getting worse and not better you MUST go to an emergency room. You must also be sure it is an ant bite and not something more drastic.

Regardless if it is was an ant or spider, you have an infection on your foot. Do begin by soaking your foot in warm water and epsom salts for 15min/day. Also keep the area covered with Neosporin and a band-aid. Advil/Aleve for the pain. However, because you have an active infection, only antibiotics will help get rid of the redness, pain, and swelling. I understand you don't have insurance but you should go the emergency room cause foot infections can travel and get worse. Please go there as soon as you can! Hope this helps!

Make a paste of baking soda and spread that over the foot and bite. Works like a charm.
