I was driving home & noticed the leaves on the trees were turning brown & there were a lot on the ground & teh trees look sick, why are the trees dying? Is it happening anywhere else? What is happening?

The trees are dying it is true.....but fear not for in Spring there will be a tremendous resurrection and they shall be dancing in the breeze again in their green resplendent glory!

In our neck of the woods, southern California, we've had a very bad time with dying trees at Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear and Idyllwild..it was due to some infestation of mites/bugs/something...add to that lack of rain and we've had some substantial fires..the last couple of years. From up high, it looks really bad..you see shots of the area, and a great percent of it is either burned, brown&dying or yellow. I don't know if that is happening in your area. We've applied for federal aid to assist in controlled burning, but I think that door was slammed in our face. They'd rather give you bucks from FEMA after the fact of destruction, rather than up front to handle controllled burning! :(
