Does aspartame in diet soda turn into formaldehyde in your body?

Why is America deceived into thinking diet soda is better or healthier than regular soda? Artificial sweeteners contain Aspartame, aspartic acid, methanol, and phenylalanine which becomes formaldehyde petrol which your body can't break down.

Because it's not true - http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp - pure and simple. ;-) You guys need to get your stories straight... http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/622816 says that ingestion CAUSES it to break down in these things. I don't think they consider anything other than the fact it is lower in calories. We are obsessed with being thin. Any means justifies the end--just as long as the end means thin.
