CAGED theory is based on scale mode.......based on C and A and G and E and D....i would not worry about this at all.......i have been playing guitar for ten yrs.........i have taught a bunch of people who are beginner's....it sounds like you are pretty good now.......i always recommend you buying your favorite album, and looking up the guitar tabs online (911tabs.com is really great)........play along on your guitar with the songs...........practice for ten minutes everyday.......that will keep it in your memory..........take care.......Brian.....

How about caged theory?

MicrocosmicOrbit

I do not play guitar, but come from a family of guitarists/musicians, and have been exposed to it all my life. I have an ear for it though, can always tell when someone has hit a wrong chord and unfortunately can not stand bad singing. lol. But musical talent tends not to be inherited by the females, but is, by EVERY male in my family, Father, brother and cousins. Anyhow, one thing they all have in common is that they play by ear. I can put on any song they have not heard before and before the song is finished they can play along with it! So once you know all the theory and patterns and so on, and you have learnt to play some of your favourite songs, try to put on a piece of music and see if you can hear the chords and learn it that way, something different, but like I said, what do I know, I have no ability to play an instrument. Happy strumming.

Even a little knowledge of the theory behind it all is really powerful! and the fact that you've already got a fair grasp on the instrument will make it easier for you too. i agree with MicrocosmicOrbit. Getting an ear for the intervals is your next big step. :)

Lean how to do barre chords and the pentatonic scale. With both them in your arsonal you can improvise over ANY song you chose:) Just a little tip though barre chords HURT! Youve got to really strech those fingers. Good luck hope that helps.
