If you accidentally scratched a CD?

Scratched CD still reads in CD-ROM drive, but not CD Player??

  • There's this old, scratched CD that I wanted to play, but it skips on my home and car CD players and my DVD Player, so I went for broke and tried playing it on my laptops CD-ROM drive, and it played flawlessly! I tried it on my desktops DVD Burner, and it played without one skipped track, why is this???

  • Answer:

Yes, it often depends on the type and age and design of the product you are using to play the CD. What might play on one Cd player might not on another because different players use different brands of lasers and different specs on how those lasers or set. Often times, CD-Roms have lasers set closer to the disc and can/will also read a disk multiple times if errors are detected, so basically there is an extra level of buffering, error detection and correction on CD-Roms so they are less likely to skip or give a disc read error. My advice, would be to rip the CD with your CD-Rom and then burn a new disc to play on your CD player.
