How do you remove or edit your question or answer?

If an answer or question is posted twice and you catch it in time to edit it, would you rather see the duplicated answer left there or see a simple 'duplicate deleted', since we can't remove a question or answer once its been posted?

  • Answer:

    I'd delete it.

There's TONS of duplicate questions all over Answerbag. The moderators used to be dilligent in catching them and deleting them. But now that AB has hundreds of users, and new questions come flying in dozens per minute, that's nigh impossible to catch them. The best any of us regulars can do when we recognize that a new question is a duplicate is to click on Flag This Ansewer, then click on Duplicate.

1) If I realized that I have posted a question twice, but I still could edit one of them, I would edit the text to "Something went wrong, please flag this as nonsense". If you don't do this, the question will normally be flagged as a duplicate. However, if you do as I said, the question will possibly be flagged sooner and people will appreciate that you pointed at your error. 2) By answers, it is not such a time problem. You can always edit your answers. So I would take one of the answers, if possible one without comments, and edit the text to ";". And I would write in a comment to that answer: "please flag this answer as nonsense".
