    They do work for some. I have a work colleague who move to San Antonio, Texas while her husband has stayed at his well-paying job in the Northeast. It presents certain challenges, for sure. I had one when I was living in Boston, while my French Canadian girlfriend lived in Montreal, after having lived together for one and one-half years. It took its toll and we moved on to other relationships, but note that this was before the Internet, e-mail, cell phones, etc. (nb: although the latter were around, they were only installed in autos and were very expensive). Technology today sure makes things a bit easier on long-distance relationships Clefairy...great question, btw!

I have been through a ton of long distance relationships, and they have only lasted a few months. It's hard to have a relationship when you can't do what most would do when in a relationship.

Rarely. Intimacy is a major part of a relationship. Having a successful long distance relationship takes the time and money to be able to go see the person enough to keep a feeling of closeness when you are apart. I was in a relationship with a soldier. We would be apart for months, only talk on the phone, and only get to see each other for a couple days, but we did see each other... and even that did some damage to the relationship. A completely long distance relationship, no matter the amount of love involved, will fade.
