How do I reset my preferences back to their original defaults?

How do you reset app preferences on an AT&T Galaxy SII?

  • I'm getting the dreaded, "unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" error that seems to be associated with the Google Play Store.  All of the online discussions I can find about this error, tell you to reset app preferences but refer to later models (SIII, Tab, Note, etc.).   The direction to reset app preferences, in Application Settings, doesn't apply to SII and an option to reset all app preferences isn't there. I desperately don't want to do a factory (hard) reset.  Any direction?

Your question isn't the clearest, but I am going to infer that you are asking about app defaults. If you are asking about preferences that you had set in the app that you would like to clear, this will also work. Go to system settings Scroll down to "Apps" Once you can view downloaded apps, scroll down to the app (play store) Select it, and scroll down to App Defaults Click clear Alternately, if it is a setting you want to clear, click clear cache (this restores the app to how it was when it was originally installed) Hope I could help! EDIT: If this doesn't work, it could be a deeper problem. The easiest fix is a system reset, if you can afford to do that. If you do, make sure you back everything up prior!
