Online retailers: Do most of your conversions come from Google Search or Google Shopping?
-
Among my friends, most of them seem to use Google Shopping and simply sort by price. If this is the case in general, SEO for shops is quite pointless since a low price (and perhaps a reasonably good reputation as well) is all that is needed.

Answer:
In my experience Google Search by a long, long way (for a site doing $1m to 10m/yr in revenue). Third party shopping networks are important too. If you're sitting on top of the organic results for a product name you'll also find you can sell your products at a slightly higher price without seeing much change in conversion. Plenty of shoppers can't be bothered fussing around to save a few dollars.
