"Always show these friends" does not save on facebook?

Why do certain friends always show up in my Facebook top news although I never interact with them?

  • Barbara and Trine always show up repeatedly in my Top News although I never like or comment on their posts or view their profiles, how come?

The reason behind their high EdgeRank could be the following: Their affinity with you (your relationship with them, although it sounds as though it's minimal) The interaction they receive on their updates that may come from your friends (that you do have high affinity) They may just get so much engagement that the EdgeRank of that particular update is so high that it's just hopping in your Top News

To the original poster, I have encountered the same thing in my testing. A user, who I have very low affinity to or with, have no interaction with at all, and whose status updates and other posts are not commented on or interacted with; yet, these kinds of posts make it to my top stories section. I'm still investigating and test. Right now, however, it seems very odd.

In fact for fan pages the third reason mentioned by Chad might be the most important driver of impressions. Only a small minority of fans (less than 10%) ever like or comment to page posts or on the page wall while considerably more are exposed to the page's posts. I think that in some way fan pages are subjected to a less restrictive edgerank policy

Is it random? I have friends appear in that Hollywood square box that I never see in my newsfeed and I have never liked or commented on anything in their feed. Also when friends visit my profile, do they see the same set of friends in that box? And sometimes it changes, why?
