How to remove empty space above the chart?

Will I lose HDD space if I remove an old OS from a dual boot system?

  • I plan to remove my old Windows XP from my laptop which has a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 8 installed. I'm worried that is I remove Windows XP some of my HDD space might become unusable.

  • Answer:

No you won't. At most, the space allocated to the old OS may be called "unallocated". You can always reclaim this by going to Computer > Manage In Disk Management on the left hand side of the new Window, find the unallocated space, format it. Create a new drive and voila, you're all good to go. :)

No After removing the os safely from your system you can format that space which was previously allocated for XP, and you can use it normally. Right click "My Computer" and choose "Manage" and then "Disk Management". From there you can format your partition to use it.
