Is there a way to get an automatic notification when someone links to your website?

Yes you can track your brand name but if someone links to your website with an achor text that is not your brand name, any text. Is there a way of getting an email/RSS/Google Reader notification?

Answer:
You can set this up with Yahoo! Pipes. Go to Pipes, search for "Backlinks to URL", then clone and tweak the settings. From there you can subscribe to the RSS feed with your favorite news reader.

My coworker Rob created a site called Linkstant. Basically it updates in Realtime when someone links to your site and someone clicks through. It would be great to have it email you each time as well, but I am not sure that exists yet.

Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOmoz and MajesticSEO are probably the best options for finding links to your site. They do not update their indexes in real-time however (more like monthly), so an email/RSS notification wouldn't make sense. I think the easiest option would be to look at your referral traffic in your analytics. If the link is any decent link, it's sending traffic right? There might even be a way to setup a custom alert in Google Analytics intelligence to do this.

blekko offers two tools you can use: an inbound link widget, which you can find at https://blekko.com/ws/+/blekkogear rss feeds of links ordered by publication date, if there is one. Example: https://blekko.com/ws/+http://blekko.com+/links+/date+/rss You can also access this data from blekko's webgui, try searching for [http://blekko.com /links /date].

Google Alerts will probably work for you if you want to check your main page backlinks updates. Like if you will set up alerts with "http://www.domain.com" or "http://domain.com" or "domain" etc. then Google will alert you if a backlink is generated for your website in any form or on any platform which you don't know. The other way is to keep your eyes on Google Webmaster section for "Links to your site". If you don't want to check all the backlinks manually and save your time then do following:- Keep track on your inlinks on a weekly basis. -> Download all the links that falls under "Links to your site" and count the end numbers. -> Do the same after 1 week and see if you have got any increase in the "links to you site" Note:- The option of "Google Webmaster" won't provide you any automatic notification but It will help you to know how many websites are linking to your website. On the other note, If you want to keep track of your existing backlinks then Raven tools is really good. If your data is saved on Raventools then anytime in the future if your link will be deleted or removed by any webmaster, you will get a notification from Raventools with their comment. (This is an alternate option only)

If you have Google Analytics installed, Google's Webmaster Tools will give you a list of your external links, including the number of links from each site in descending order.
