Why are Google Chat and Google Talk not available for the iPhone and/or iPad?

  • I would like to use Google Chat on my iPhone and Ipad and I am surprised that Google does not have a native application for it. I do not want to pay $9.99 for a 3rd party service like IM+ or even a free service like http://imo.im. I would prefer a direct native app by Google for Google. Why have they not developed this app?

    You can use Meebo it's free and has push type notifications for Gtalk that combined with talkatone as a Gvoice Dialer give me all the functionality that I was used to from Android. Talkatone also makes all its GVoice calls over your data connection so it doesnt use your minutes. No Android app does that yet that I know of. The Google App is just a browser interface and not very nice with no alerts.

Google has generally (aside from voice) moved away from creating native applications. If you download the google app you can access the web optimized version of chat.
