What do you know about sales versus communication objective?

Should Quora provide the option to classify an answer/question to be subjective or objective?

  • Most of the times, a question can be answered both from 1) An objective perspective without inclination to any personal feelings or opinions in considering or representing facts & 2) A subjective perspective where in answer can be based on personal feeling or experience. In these cases, a person who wanted to answer the question may or may not know the intent of the person who asked the question. Or to put it in another way, person who asked the question may or mat not put in his intention or what he is looking for actually. Suppose let us say, the person who asked the question want an answer that is only objective. People who are trying to answer it in another way need not waste their time in this case. It could save the time for both of them which is a win-win situation. That avoids the confusion altogether! It can clear off the communication gap!  Or altogether, even a topic can be classified in some cases. Most of the times, questions on topics under groups like politics, life advice, entertainment will be answered from subjective perspective. So, may be those topics can be listed under subjective category. Not only in these 2 ways, there can be many ways of answering a question like giving a story real/fictional and leaving it to the person to decide or judge, giving only the information in the answer, giving the ideology as an answer etc.. Answers can be let us say marked by the person and/or moderators if required. : I would like to hear from you on this question. Also do you think in this way, moderation of the community can be made easier? You think this can reduce the so called "fights"?

  • Answer:

Nah. This would invite unnecessary bickering over whether particular questions are objective or subjective with little or no benefit to justify the time that members would spend using the feature. Virtually very question and answer on Quora calls for some measure of opinion and judgment in answering.  It is not an engine for crowdsourcing empirically verifiable truths. That's fine. It is a place to discuss interesting stuff, and that is still a totally legitimate and fun and useful thing to be. There are some questions that really do seem to have a clear right and wrong answer -- for example, "does gravity exist" -- but frankly I have read answers from smart-sounding scientists that suggest that it is possible to answer this question with an answer that is more detailed than "yes" and involves some interesting philosophical musings. I think it is better for people to just understand that on Quora as in every other way of communicating, humans speak based on experience and judgment and these need to be factored into every conversation.
