What is a facebook 'official' page?

What is the benefit of creating and managing multiple Facebook groups, which are not updated for months, when an official page of the organization exists for interaction?

  • I have noticed that 2 Facebook groups were created to discuss an organization that already has its official FB page. The person responsible for creating and promoting these pages claims that he coaches governments on social media, has 4 books on the subject and knows what he is doing. As he preferred not to respond to my confusion, I turned to Quora to get a logical answer ..

I cannot find any logic in what he is doing. There could be reasons for doing this known only to the person actually doing it. One reason can be that he is using the brand name to promote his own products. Here are some examples of success of non-official profiles- Will Smith Twitter Profile - https://twitter.com/WillSmithID Angry Birds Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/FansOfAngryBirds So, based on the enormous number of likes, they can promote their own products easily. Maybe that is the reason for this person creating groups, promote his own books, etc.
