Why are there so many delays on furniture shipping when you order from online stores?

Every time I have done this, furniture shipping and delivery costs a lot, but it never comes on time. Usually, the furniture is delayed between 2-3 weeks, sometimes more, and it has never come at the time designated in the initial purchase agreement. Why does this happen?

  Sorry to hear that happened to you. I worked as a CTO for a large private shopping company in home vertical. It sells many items, including home furniture. So maybe I could help with some details. When you buy a furniture online, you actually "order" a furniture. Furnitures occupy too much space. So most of the time, they are not physically stored in the website's, supplier's or even the manufacturing company's facilities. Instead, the website accumulates orders until either there are enough orders to notify the supplier, or there are enough complaining customers. Even if the website informs the supplier about the orders in real time, same accumulation occurs on the supplier company. This is mainly due to the fact that a cargo truck carrying only one table will be too expensive for all companies included. Thus it generally waits until the whole truck is filled with items. This kind of waiting goes almost the same on the manufacturer. A factory can not produce only one table at a time for financial reasons.
