Why do we see colors?

Why do people see different colors on "that dress"?

  • if you don't know what I'm talking about, just google "that dress" and you'll get a picture of it. When I look at it I see light blue and gold...other people say they see black and blue or white and gold, and that it has something to do with the clones in your eyes, but that doesn't make sense to me. There are obvious colors on the screen, so how can different people see different colors on the same picture? and it's just this picture, I haven't seen people argue about the colors of a picture before

It's because there are 3 different images. They all have different exposure and your inner workings of the eye also changes it for you. The original dress is ''Royal blue and Black'' according to the owner on CNN.

ITS GOLD AND BLACK!! people that say they see black and blue are trolling us

Because of the light in the background which inflicts brightness on the dress in which the dress can be seen at different colors, and also it's because of the different white balances in everyone's brain. But yes the dress is really blue and black and that's how I saw it
