Is tazorac the same as retin a micro ? does it actually work?

Have you used retin-a for fine lines around your eyes? Did it work?

  • Hello. Female, 33, I've been using retin-a for years but never in the eye area. I would like to start using a very light .025 cream around that area but I'm really not sure yet, I've heard that it makes the area look crepey but that it then really improves. Have any of you beauties taken that plunge? What happened? How did it work for you?

  • Answer:

Ha, I am no "beauty" but I did try Roc Retinol cream (overnight version, in a tube, can be found at Target) and found it made my skin red with no noticeable improvement. I finished the tube for economy's sake but did not re-purchase. I guess I'll take the Bette Davis attitude: I earned every single one of these lines! :D However, I do see Roc has a "sensitive" tube version so that might've been more ideal. I used Paula's Choice http://www.paulaschoice.com/shop/skin-care-categories/antioxidants/_/Skin-Recovery-Super-Antioxidant-Concentrate-Serum/ all over my face, including near eyes (not sure if I was supposed to -- I never follow directions). Anyway, didn't experience any crepe-iness or dryness. My skin felt very supple. No idea if it had any effect on wrinkles, but my skin quality improved overall, for certain. F 43. I've used prescription 0.05% tretinoin (Vitamin A) cream on and off since my mid-thirties, especially in the eye area. - I have not experienced crepiness due to the cream. The area directly under my eyes - the "bag" location - has recently become more crepey but I believe that is aging, not the cream. Note that most people my age experienced crepiness there years ago, so the cream may be delaying the inevitable. - I do not have crow's feet when relaxed, and few when smiling. I attribute this to tretinoin AND genetics. - I avoid the sun and use SPF daily as a long-standing habit, but have occasionally gotten a little burn when not careful. One must be diligent regarding the photosensitivity. I'm of Welsh/Scottish ancestry, naturally pale and freckled. If you are more olive-complected, you may not have to be as concerned. - The tretinoin cream leaves my face, especially the planes (like cheekbones) shiny and youthfullish. It is hard to explain, but the skin shines, which I like and I feel the skin is renewed and fresh. I think it is worth it to get the Rx tretinoin and I've had a great experience. I recommend it to everyone. I believe the Rx strength has the most peer-reviewed data showing effectiveness. It is one of the few anti-aging treatments with empirical support. Hope this anecdote helps!

Punctual

I use the same Paula's Choice serum as Mrs. Rattery with a similar disregard for the instructions, and it does seem to make my skin nicer (I have very dry skin, and am prone to eczema but not overly sensitive to skincare ingredients). The one instruction that you should follow is to make sure you use sunscreen religiously while you're using it because it does make you more susceptible to burning.

I have been using rx tretinoin for a bit over a year. I'm not sold on the antiwrinkle results around my eyes, but I noticed that my skin has become very thin and prone to tearing. I know it sounds weird, but you know what I mean. If I scratch too hard my skin tears, or god forbid I try and express a zit or rub off make-up. Having said that, I have never had more compliments.

well I've been using 0.1 for some time now and I don't remember it ever making me crepey. to avoid irritation, I usually slap on some Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion and leave it for 15 minutes before applying the Retin-A. also, i introduce the stuff to a new area by applying every 7 days for the first month, every 6 days for the second month, and so on until I'm applying it every night.

Interesting. I had the crepey effect when using a Retinol (Stri-Vectin's Vitamin A product) serum for the eye area. I stopped using it because my eye wrinkles are not the "at rest" kind and it was just part of a kit that had other stuff I use so I didn't test it long enough to see if it would have reversed.

I've been using retin-a for years on my face, including around my eyes and never had crepey skin. If I use too much or use too strong a formulation (I just moved up to 0.1%), I can get sensitive, flaking skin, in which case I just use a little less or less frequently. But never had the crepe problem.
