A career in Forensic Psychology UK?

I am currently doing an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and I'm in the first year. I want a career in social work after psychology, will I have to do a new undergraduate for three years or? (UK)

  • Answer:

Yes. It is now a requirement to have a degree in Social Work to become a social worker. However, as you are doing a BSc in Psychology, you may be eligible to do a simple Social Work two year post-graduate course once you graduate. You will need a 2:2 in a relevent subject. I guess psychology is pretty relevent. You will have to look for post-graduate social work courses and see their entry requirements =)

I doubt you will have to, but every job is different. Most places do accept psychology graduates as social workers. It may be that they are fine with it, or you may be asked to take a night collage course in social care, but i doubt very much you will have to do a complete new degree. I am also a psychology student, currently in my second year, and my sister also studied psychology and graduated with a 1st. She got her first job as a community mental health care assistant and her roll was very similar to that of a social worker. If you graduate you could always get a job like that in order to gain some experience in work similar to social work. That should put you in good stead for a job in social work.
