How can I improve my 5k time?

Im a track and XC runner in high school. My mile time last XC season was 5:30 and it's now 5:15. But my 5k time is only 20:30. What should I do to improve that. My coaches say I ...show more

You need to work on your race pace for the 5K. A very good day is to run repeats of 800 a little faster than the projected race pace, with only one minute recovery try to do 10. when your times start to slow, then stop, hopefully you can do at least 6 to 8. This will help you in the race, do this once each week. If you are doing the endurance work you certainly should be under 20 minutes
