To lose 3 lbs a week you'll need a deficit of 10,500 calories a week (1 pound = 3,500 calories, so 3 pounds = 10,500 calories). Two pounds week is recommended. Three is going to be tough, but still do-able. Basically you have to slash 500+ calories from your diet each day and exercise like a madwoman (well over an hour each day).
