What is the difference between the shimano deore derailleurs and shifters and the SRAM?

Will Shimano Shifters Work With Sram Derailleurs or vice versa?

  • Just wondering if this works...

  • Answer:

Not always. There are a few styles of SRAM shifters that are available for use with Shimano derailleurs (you have to specify it when ordering) but I don't think that ANY Shimano shifters will work with SRAM unless it is the very cheapest stuff, like the MMRD series or something. There are some who say that SRAM and Shimano are interchangable. Those people should note that the companies use different cable pull ratios- one uses a 2:1 ratio and the other uses a direct, 1:1 ratio.

Mirage beat me to it The SRAM 1:1 actuation ratio and Shimano shifters would cause problems for us roadies. EDIT: Sorry Mirage, just noticed the subtle namechange, 'Bikeworks' (there must be a reason?) .

99% sure the answer is no. SRAM cassettes will work with Shimano but that is the only crossover. Check with your local bike shop to be sure.
