I prefer Calf Manna given in the recommended dosage added to their grain. I bought an underweight mare nursing a 3 day old filly and the mare is picking up weight on it. She is allowed grass and hay plus I feed her 2 scoops feed both a.m. and p.m. I am wondering why you have this mare on senior feed when she in only 13?

I would feed Beet pulp, you buy in a fifty pound bag and soak each serving in water feed about a half can a night add a little honey or grain mixed in with it.

Give her corn oil. It is the only healthy, most effective, safest thing to get weight on.

I was thinking ulcers as well. Ulcers are usually caused by horses being stressed out, but there are other reasons too. The weight loss and nervousness are signs that it could be an ulcer. It could also just be the change in diet. Corn or corn oil will help with getting weight back and will add shine to the coat. Some people will say that corn makes the horses hot, which it sometimes does, but it just gives them more energy, so you may have to adjust your work out to it. There are things to give the horse if it does have ulcers. I had an OTTB who had ulcers and we used gastroguard. It worked well for him. I looked up a few websites for you to look at about ulcers and such. I agree, have the vet look at her, but you can also try supplements. Smartpak has great ones! Just google smartpak.com and look under their weight gain supplements. ;)

you can try to give her beet pulp to help her gain weight in addition to her normal diet.

Is she wormed regularly ? It could be something to do with her teeth - get the dentist to take a look- if the teeth aren't meeting correctly it could have something to do with that - the dentist could have merely been checking to make sure teeth were healthy and evenly worn not actually checking what i mentioned above. If she's an older horse and the weather a bit on the cold side you may need to rug her up and up her feed a little. edit; jesus ! 200lbs ! are you serious you haven't even considered calling a vet ? there could be actually probably is something majorally wrong with that horse !
HOLY! 200lbs! What kind of hay are you feeding? Have you switched the hay lately? But I would call the vet ASAP cause its not good when they are dropping that much weight. And it sounds like she is stressed in the stall which is why she paces (which is a bad thing to do as it works her up and horses drop alot of weight) and she may have ulcers. So I would call the vet ASAP and get a full checkup on your mare.

she is probably not used to the change and because of it refuses to eat. it will probably go away aventually, but its a good idea to check in with a vet.:D
