How do you train to become good at parkour?
-
Like, where do you go to do stunts and flips and crap. How do you stretch your body. How do you excersise. Things like that would be of use. Thanks!!

Alright. I'll make it short, sweet, and to the point. Or at least I'll try... I recommend you start out with the basic, of all the basics. Vaults. Go to a local park, and find a bench, or a rail of some sort. But beforehand, make sure you know what kind of vault you are attempting, and how to do it. Then go at it! "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." What has helped me, is try getting a friend or two to join in with you, to pick you up when you fall! Isn't that what friends are for anyways? ;-] They also can help, by teaching you a move that you just can't seem to get it down by yourself, but they have. Or Vice-Versa! It's a joined effort at times. Don't be afraid to ask for help! Have a set time, that you will go practice/meet every week. Go online, and look at a move or two that you would like to learn, print off a "how-to" if need be, and bring it along! Then have everyone work on that move, until someone gets it right. Then they can help teach, and there's another way to learn. Visual, Audible, and Right there with you! Now, gymnastics isn't really a BAD idea, but I don't suggest it. But, the Gym is a great place to practice though. Now, of course you have always heard "Eat well, and exercise," But what does that really mean? Well, first look up the food pyramid. It's sounds like I'm being sarcastic, like I usually am, but it's what you need. Now, do the basic "sit-ups" and "pull-ups." But also make a few changes to those, and add in some new ones! For example, if you face your palms towards you while doing pull-ups, flip them around, like if you were doing a cat leap. Simple things like that are practice, and exercise all in one! Go to Google, and search "Parkour specific exercises," Or you can even take off the "specific." I hope this helped! Contact me, send a message, and we can talk on AIM, Facebook, and Myspace, anytime! Oh, and sorry for not keeping it short(that's what she said) but it was still sweet, and to the point, right?

Well the best thing to do would be to take a gymnastics class. If you do not want to their are several videos on the internet that can teach you the basics but remember parkour is about creativity and freedom of movement so there is no measure on how good you are. Start with landings and rolls and move your way up to vaults and more advance tequneices. You can learn how to do flips of the internet. Make sure you at least practice in grass. Sand or a gym floor would be better. Best of luck
