i got my parakeet yesterday. at first she was very still and very quiet. this is because they are scared. they think youre going to eat them. well after a few hours of me going to the cage every 15 mins to talk to her she really started to liven up! she hasnt stoppped exploring her cage since yesterday afternoon and shes already hand feeding from me. once the bird is making noise and exploring, that is the time to begin to allow them to get used to you by putting your hand near her cage, then in her cage to move things around. for the first few weeks try not to attempt to touch her. let her come to you. for example last night i put a grape in the bars of her cage so it would stick. she dropped it so i HELD another half through the bars and she came up to me to eat it. this was us beginning to bond. this morning i stuck some lettuce through the cage and she loved it (by this point she was used to my hands always being near the cage and i constantly spoke to her) so then i put a hand full of lettuce on my palm and held my hand in the cage for 10 mins. on the second attempt she ate from my hand but wouldnt sit on it. im onto my 6th attempt now and she has finally sat on my hand. i never move at all when my hand is in the cage. i wait for her to come to me. As for feeding on the first day, try putting some millet and some seeds in there. some in the feeding cup, water in the other feeding cup, a sprig of millet through the bars of the top of the cage and once shes making noises stick some banana, grapes etc through the bars for her to nibble. You are gona love your bird theyre great! good luck!
