How can I prevent a custom app URL redirecting to the App Store from the web?

I want to send users to a mobiles app from my site if possible, but if they don't have the app installed, I'd prefer them to be sent to to a web address instead. How can I do this?

I work at Branch (https://branch.io) and think about mobile linking for about 18 hours a day. The easiest way to do this would be to use an app linking tool like a Branch link and configure the fallback url to be the mobile website instead of the App Store. By default, the links will try to open the app, then safely fallback to a configurable URL.
