How To Find Riding Boots?

Do any other riders find it funny how people are wearing "riding boots and breeches"?

    Hey, now you look stylish when you leave the barn! I used to get really self conscious about walking around in my barn attire on my way home. Then I stopped caring, but I do find it funny how now it's a fashion statement. You can always tell when people are wearing fake ones though. I had to take a double take the other day when I was walking across campus (college campus) and saw a girl wearing riding boots and pants. But the pants were WAY too thin, and the patch looked like fabric. Also, the biggest giveaway, is the zipper on the inside of the boot. You would NEVER wear that in a saddle, the zipper would rip up your leather, not to mention leave a funny mark on your leg. I still get strange looks on occasion, but I don't really mind. I joined the horse show team at my university, so now I know about 50 other people who do the same thing. Funny story: An old friend I used to ride with was walking around downtown after leaving the barn. She was wearing tan breeches, and tall boots. She was about 16 or 17 at the time, and was walking around in the dark when some guy pulled up to her in a car. He asked her how much. She said "What?" And the guy said "How much?" Then he saw the knee patches, noticed they were pants, and said "Oh. Never mind" and sped off. She never wore tan breeches again... lol

Oh.My.Gosh. It is so stupid. I hate to see people wearing that (even though I haven't really seen people do that). Even though I ride Western, it still looks ridiculous . I just looked it up; it doesn't even LOOK like 'riding boots' XD Silly attempt at being cool. I am going to start riding in my English saddle (hopefully) so I may get some paddock boots and half chaps and some cheap jean leggings, to cut down on costs. I hate when people wear 'cowboy boots' and jeans as a fashion statement and claim themselves to be cowboys/cowgirls. EDIT: Not to mention how people that wear the fake riding boots/breeches would DIE if their boots got mud/horse poo on them, but we romp around in it every day. Of course, I try to avoid the mud because it will mess up my boots and I don't want to spray them and end up ruining them.

My trainers and I were talking about it the other day. I think it is kinda ridiculous when someone pretends to be something they are not by dressing how what they want to be would dress (ex non-riders wearing faking riding clothes to look like they ride). You see it in other places: I bought western boots and wear a ball cap, I must be country, or, I wear baggy pants and tilt my hat to the side, I must be gangsta. But yes I do find it silly. You can actually easily tell the real stuff from the fake. I know of a girl (friend of a friend) who wears her breeches and tall boots everywhere, because she is either going to or from the barn at some point in the day and she doesn't see the point in changing. I know haha, I Haven`t seen people with breeches on but I couldn`t believe it when I saw `riding boot`s for sale in a this shop.

The thing is, when you spend 800.00 to 1000.00 for a pair of custom boots, they are put on at the barn and you take them off after you are done riding. walking around in them breaks them down faster.
