Why do snowboarders wear normal helmets with their beanies and goggles under it?

These people are wearing snowboarding helmets, they just took off the ear pads. I find the ear pad, uncomfortable and generally annoying. Plus, removing them gives you more room for a hat, so that you're warm. Also, it's a pain in the *** to have your goggles over the helmet.
