Whats the best way to keep my iphone4 safe while skiing?

Putting it in a jacket pocket unprotected is the worst thing you can possibly do to a phone. The warm humid air inside of your jacket will ruin the phone. The best thing you can do is to put it in a Ziploc sandwich bag first. That will keep it dry. Edit: Trust me the ziplock bag works. I ski 100-150 days per year. The first year I fried a phone because of the humidity in my jacket. A ziplock bag has kept my phone safe the last two seasons of skiing, and I also use it when biking in the rain in the summer. And the best part about a ziplock bag is that you can still use the touch screen through the bag.

Chest pocket haha if you're really worried, get a protective case before you go. If you've never been skiing before, pants pockets are a bad idea cus you might fall and you're more likely to fall on your side. I personally put my phone in my pants pocket, sometimes in a coat pocket, my iPod in my chest pocket and if I just have my sweatshirt (spring) then I just stick everything in my pants pockets (iPod in back, phone in side) but that's just me :) Anyways, enjoy your trip

Don't put it in your pants, because if you fall your phone's screen will likely shatter because in most falls you will come down onto your leg's side. A good idea is a protective case; in a skiing environment you will have snow around you and I recommend something like a lifeproof or otterbox armor case which are water proof. The otterbox defender is a little less expensive than the armor, and it will protect your phone against any crash (same can be said for armor) but will not be waterproof. I cannot testify for the strength of the lifeproof but I know some people who are very happy with it. I have dropped(accident), fell onto ice (accident), thrown and smashed (not necessarily accidentally) my iPhone 5 inside both otterboxes and they work great. Another idea is to put it inside a ziploc bag to protect it from the water but that doesn't protect from impact and takes away functionality, especially in a touchscreen you don't want to have to take your phone out of a bag to have to text or answer a call. Put it into a padded case then on the Inside jacket pocket. If the inside pocket has a zipper be sure to zip it closed so the phone can't fall out. The padded case is to protect the phone from any shocks or falls, and to keep it dry and warm. Cold air will zap the charge from the battery fast. 5-below stores have nice cases cheap. I think they want you to have the phone in case you get separated from the group they can locate you, or contact you quick in case of emergency. If you stick with the group it shouldn't be a problem if you don't take the phone, someone else will have one. I was just in the mountains, and where we were there was no cell service. Lot of good that will be if the mountain doesn't have cell service.
