Is it ok to become a TATTOO ARTIST with NOT VERY MANY TATTOOS?

If I were to become a tattoo artist, would I be able to do so with simply a large piece on the side of my calf? or do you have to have many visible tattoos to become an artist? ...show more

Answer:
Why not? Does a person have to endure multiple surgeries to become a surgeon? Just make sure you gets lots of pictures of your work and post them up in your studio. Best wishes!

No you don't have to be covered with tattoos. Fewer tattoos appeal to most people, covered in tattoos can look intimidating to people. Most nail techs (who do acrylic nails) do not wear the nails them self.

Lol! Choosing to have tattoos or not tattoos has nothing to do with becoming a tattoo artist! Anyone who tells you different if full of it. Your passion, artistic abilities and creativity do. Some people may wonder when they walk in and you aren't covered because thats what they're used to seeing, but screw em! Its YOUR body hun.

Of course! I've seen plenty of tattoo artists with minimal numbers of tattoos. That's your personal choice. Doesn't make you any different of an artist.

You should be ok, just be aware that people may not be totally comfortable getting tattooed by you if they can't see your ink.

people definitely trust tattoo artist with plenty of tattoos better than someone who doesn't have any visible ones. and i don't blame them - would you trust a dentist with no teeth? however it's not a number one thing you need to become a tattoo artist but in case you want to go look for an apprenticeship you need to look like you belong in this industry, that will solve a lot of problems for you. i know that because when i first started looking tattoo artists just laughed at me because i only had a few small tattoos

You don't have to have tattoos to be an artist. But, if you have pictures of work you have done, thats always good so they can see how good you are.

You're going to have to tattoo yourself anyway, so you'll have more than that. You don't have to have a lot of visible tattoos, but I would feel weird going to someone without at least a couple of tattoos to get tattooed.

I don't see how the number of tattoos you have would have anything to do with how well you tattoo. It may make some people unseasy, but I would be just fine having an artist with 1 great piece.
