  Every person has different study habits that work for them. You first need to find out what type of learner you are so you can find study habits that appeal to you. Everyone is different and sitting and reading will not do it for many. An educational psychology book, used to teach upcoming teachers how to teach, may help you figure out which type of learner you are and the best study habits to suit your learning style. I cannot concentrate if there is only one thing going on. I need music or the t.v. to add slight distractions or else my mind wonders far from the subject matter by itself. I am also a visual learner so paring up visuals, maps, and graphs helps me understand a subject. You may be a kinetic learner, a literary learner, an auditory learner or a combination of any of the above. If you are paying for your higher education yourself break down how many hours you have worked to afford the class and it may motivate you to make sure you get your moneys worth. For some, studying with friends may help, for others it may be a downfall. It also depends alot on the friends you choice to study with. Lastly, putting yourself in a place where you have nothing to do but study may help. Such as a coffee shop, restaurant, or library. If you allocate an hour or 2 and stay there, without your phone or laptop, you will have nothing to do but study.
