Why do I get chat messages from people I dont know?

Only in the new yahoo mail version, do I get weird off line IM's from people I dont know. The messages contain odd graphical type letters Iv never seen before. I report them as ...show more

they may be trying to arn points for something they signedup for ad just snd it any name they find but u could block it so that its in the junk mail

Those are people trying to get you to go on certain websites because they get paid by the number of contacts they make. They find profiles on yahoo and send out the IM's in bulk. Every nook and cranny in your life now contains advertising.
