British, you can't be a citizen of the European union without being british. And nobody says I'm European" in Europe. You're Italian, swedish, Spanish ect.

I have many friends in the UK and they are all staunchly proud of the fact that they are English, Scottish, Welsh, from Northern Ireland, or from one of the many islands. Not one of them refers to themselves as citizens of the European Union.

There was a survey, I don't know where it is - but they do not consider themselves EU citizens. British people are very nationalistic.

Just because America refers to every country in Europe as Europe, the rest of us don't. Nobody calls themselves European. They are categorised by country.
